Hi there,

We are just one week away from the PinkNews Awards! Are you ready for another glam time this year, with celebrities, politicians and influencers all coming together — online — in support of LGBT+ rights? Make sure to check out our charity fundraiser in support of Black LGBTQIA+ Therapy Fund, Mermaids and Kaleidoscope Trust.

We would like to extend an invitation to our MyPinkNews members for a special PinkNews Awards edition of a MyPinkNews Conversation. Our Meet the Winners webinar will take place on the 9th of December, 1:30-2:30pm GMT. Sign up for the opportunity to chat to our winners about what the Awards mean for them, how they found the process, and what got them the nomination.

This week, we interviewed another one of our amazing judges, author and sex educator Ruby Rare about the importance of the PinkNews Awards, and her favourite entries:

1.Why is it important PinkNews is delivering this as a digital event?

Just because we can’t gather together for an awards ceremony, doesn’t mean we should stop celebrating these incredible individuals and initiatives! If anything, this year has brought even more challenges to queer communities, and events like the PinkNews Awards are a reminder that hard work within the comminity doesn’t go unnoticed.

2. What does the PinkNews Awards mean to you?

For me, it’s a time for reflection – taking stock of all the hard work that’s gone on throughout the year inspires us to keep growing and pushing for greater change. The awards are also a space for education, where queer folks and allies can learn more about the work that goes on behind the scenes.

3. Who are your favourite nominees this year?

The documentary Disclosure was a real standout for me, as well as all of the community groups – some of which I was familiar with, but others like Courageous Leaders were new to me. In a year that’s been challenging in so many ways, it’s such a joy to be amplifying the work of incredible organisations.

The Awards go live next week, with winners announced 2-4 December across the PinkNews site and socials. Be sure to tune in and we will be back next week with more exclusive MyPinkNews members only content, so keep an eye out!
