A gay couple have been convicted of attacking their neighbour in a row over a cat damaging their garden.

Bill Young, 51, and David Dickman, 45, beat and bit Tony Dyson, 47, in the late-night argument in March.

They also tried to gouge his eyes out.

Dyson told Perth Sheriff Court there had been tensions between the households for two years and that the couple had accused him of allowing his cat to destroy their garden.

He told the court: “David barged through a gap in the hedge into our garden, shouted something along the lines of ‘You’re going to get it now you ****’ and started to grab at me.

“Bill grabbed me and sank his teeth into the side of my head.

“I was dragged to the ground by both David and Bill, with Bill still biting me, trying to gouge at my eyes and trying to swing one arm to hit me with a rock.”

Police then arrived to arrest the pair, while Dyson and his wife took refuge in their home.

Young and Dickman admitted the assault and Young also admitted obstructing paramedics.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said the couple had “little or no offending background” and added it was “regretful” they were in court.

Young was fined £800 and Dickman was sentenced to 140 hours of community service.
