Fans think August Alsina just came out as queer after introducing new love to the world

Singer August Alsina appears to have come out as queer and introduced his boyfriend to the world.

Alsina, who famously had an “entanglement” with Jada Pinkett Smith, is currently appearing on US reality show The Surreal Life.

In Monday night’s episode (21 November) the 30-year-old announced that he wanted to “honour the person that I love” by introducing them to his fans.

Speaking to the camera, Alsina explained that “love showed up but in a new way”.

“I want to share that and really honour the person that I love and that loves me back, and teaching me so much about love and healing. I want to do that in front of the world,” he said.

“Because it defies all of the constructs that one would say love is supposed to be or love would look like,” he added, as a man sat down next to him and said “I love you”.

While Alsina didn’t label his sexuality or confirm the identity of the man who sat down next to him, some fans have taken the clip as his coming out.

“Good for August Alsina… a beautiful moment seeing someone win that battle within themselves and find love and healing as he described. Love won here,” one person wrote.

“He is ready to live his truth. Amen to him! It’s a great feeling when you get there,” another added.

YouTuber Kalen Allen tweeted: “August Alsina coming out was not on my 2022 Bingo Card,” with makeup artist Manny MUA replying with: “mine either and i lived with him for weeks.”

Manny MUA lived alongside Alsina during the filming of The Surreal Life, in which celebrities live with each other in a Hollywood mansion and complete a series of tasks.

Other Twitter users have been quick to say that Alsina shouldn’t be labelled by his fans nor forced to define his own sexuality, considering he didn’t explicitly reveal the nature of his relationship with the man he sat down with, nor confirm how he identifies.

August Alsina made headlines back in 2020 after claiming that he’d had a relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith with the consent of her husband, Will Smith.

However, while Pinkett Smith did later confirm that she had an intimate relationship with Alsina, she clarified during an appearance on chat show Red Table Talk that the pair had been together while she and Will Smith were separated.

In 2019, Alsina clapped back at someone who called him gay on Instagram, telling the troll that they shouldn’t use “gay” as an insult.

“Yal folks gotta stop using gay as some type of slur and term of degradation,” he wrote.
