Broad City star Abbi Jacobson is officially engaged to her girlfriend of two years, South African actor Jodi Balfour.

The pair made their red carpet debut as a couple at the premiere of Jacobson’s A League of their Own TV series, which she created and stars in.

Both sported engagement rings, and soon enough they confirmed the happy news to reporters.

Jacobson’s co-stars were in on the secret, and shared their thrilled reactions with People.

It’s out. It’s great,” co-star and longtime friend D’Arcy Carden said, “We’re so happy. We love [Jodi].”

Chanté Adams added: ““Abbi’s engaged! Abbi’s engaged! Abbi’s engaged!” before joking about having to “hide” the news.

But Jacobson was quick to clarify: “No, you have not. You have not had to hide it. That was not a thing. It was not a secret.”

Abbi Jacobson and Jodi Balfour made their relationship public in October, as they celebrated their first anniversary.

Balfour posted a photo of the two of them kissing with the caption: “365 days of the best surprise of my life.”

Jacobson captioned her own anniversary post: “One year with this incredible human. Don’t know how I got so lucky.”
Jacobson came out as queer in a Vanity Fair interview in 2018. She said: “I kind of go both ways; I date men and women. They have to be funny, doing something they love.”

Balfour also shared her journey with her LGBTQ+ identity in an Instagram post in June 2021.

In the caption she wrote: “I’m stepping away from my sense of inadequacy, my fear of taking up room not meant for me, and my need to do this right…

“To say how undeniably freeing it has been to finally embrace and explore my queerness; how flooded I feel with gratitude for how easy it’s been for me to share this with my community,

“Even though it took me a long time to get here, it feels like coming home to myself in a way that’s burst life right open.”

Abbi Jacobson’s A League of their Own is set to be released on Amazon Prime on August 12 and follows the story of an all female baseball league in 1943.
