‘Wagatha Christie’ drama to bring Rebekah Vardy v Coleen Rooney drama to Channel 4 as verdict nears

No, this is not a drill – the #WagathaChristie saga is officially coming to a TV screen near you.
A verdict in the infamous libel trial between Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy is due at midday on Friday (29 July), concluding the real-life battle between the pair.
But, worry not, because Channel 4 has commissioned a two-part docudrama of the chaos in all its gripping glory.
Announcing Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama, Channel 4 tweeted: “It was the court case that gripped the nation, dubbed “#WagathaChristie” online, and put social media under the legal spotlight. A new two-part drama-documentary……….will reveal all.”
The factual drama series will bring the court transcripts to life, with actors reading Vardy and Rooney’s exact testimonies.
The now notorious feud between Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy started in October 2019, after Rooney accused Vardy of leaking stories about her to the press. This gave birth to the iconic refrain: “It’s… Rebekah Vardy’s account.”
The nickname Wagatha Christie was given after the stellar detective work conducted by Coleen in her attempts to expose Rebekah, including feeding fake stories to her Instagram Stories.
Vardy denies leaking any stories, and is suing Rooney for libel.

In the Channel 4 series, actors will play the key characters: Rebekah Vardy, Colleen Rooney, and their husbands Jamie Vardy and Wayne Rooney as the trial, social media reaction and mess is unravelled. No cast announcements have yet been made.

“The court case that followed has captivated the entire nation but very few people actually got to see what happened inside the courtroom.
“We’re excited to bring the trial to life in such a unique way and we’re hoping we can get to the bottom of how this case fascinated and amazed so many.”
Director Oonagh Kearney added: “Behind this, is a story of two women under constant public scrutiny, fighting for their reputations.”
