Sister Wives star Leon Brown bravely comes out as trans in emotional Instagram post

Star of Sister Wives reality TV show comes out as trans

Leon Brown, star of the reality TV show Sister Wives, has come out as trans, stating they are “finally ready to share my favourite self with the world”.

The show focuses on a polygamist family in the United States, comprising of father Kody Brown, his four wives (Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn) and their 18 children. Leon, 26, is the only child of Kody and Meri Brown.

They came out in an emotional Instagram post, explaining that they don’t have to have “s**t figured out in order for me to share myself with the world”.

They added: “I remember the first time that I knew I wasn’t a girl.

“I was pretty young and unfortunately I grew up in a context that was incredibly gendered and restrictive, so I continued to be socialised as a girl and later a woman… I’m finally ready to share my favourite self with the world, and that self is incredibly genderqueer, trans and unapologetic.”

“Being queer and trans are definitely some of my favourite parts of myself, and yet, there are so many things that i am learning to love about myself through this process,” they added.

“Here’s to me getting to know myself, share myself and continually evolve to be the person I am, to be my favourite self in all contexts.”

Despite as Leon said, growing up in a “gendered and restrictive” community, their family has been publicly supportive, with their mother – also a star of Sister Wives – sharing Leon’s post in an Instagram story.

According to People magazine, Meri, 51, shared Leon’s announcement, captioned: “You are my sunshine.”

Leon is not the only cast member of Mormon reality TV show Sister Wives to come out publicly, with half-sister Gwendlyn Brown coming out as a “raging bisexual” in 2020.

Following media attention from her announcement, Brown later clarified that she had not really “come out”, as she was “never in” the closet to begin with.
