A Chicago drag queen made an LGBTQ+ club erupt into cheers by performing the brand new Beyoncé song “Break My Soul” just minutes after its release.

Beyoncé’s comeback song, which has already been labelled a queer anthem by LGBTQ+ fans, was released across streaming services at 5am (UK time), dropping slightly earlier on Tidal.

At 5.52am, Chicago drag queen Ari Gato posted a performance of the song complete with hair flips and spins.

“This has been one of my favourite songs for as long as I can remember (the last 52 minutes),” Ari Gato wrote on Twitter.

“The lyrics REALLY spoke to me.”

The video shows the queen dancing to applause, strutting in heels, and lip syncing along to an impressive amount of the lyrics.

One Twitter user commented: “Beyoncé works hard but drag artists work harder!! Performing hours after release? The IMPACT!”

Another said: “The gay clubs are about to go bananas.”

Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul” has already sent social media into a tailspin since being released on Tuesday (21 June).

The song samples not only the classic house hit “Show Me Love” by Robin S, but also Big Freedia’s “Explode”.

An anthem to encapsulate 2022, “Break My Soul” includes the lyrics: “Now, I just fell in love, and I just quit my job / I’m gonna find new drive, damn, they work me so damn hard / Work by nine, then off past five / And they work my nerves, that’s why I cannot sleep at night.”

“Break My Soul” marks Beyoncé’s first original song since she released “Be Alive” in 2021, which was written for the film King Richard.

The singer is expected to follow up the single release with the release her hotly-anticipated seventh studio album Renaissance on 29 July.

Renaissance will be the singer’s first studio album since her critically acclaimed Lemonade in 2016, which won two Grammys and a Peabody award. In the interim, she has released Everything Is Love, a collaborative album her husband Jay-Z, her soundtrack album The Lion King: The Gift and the accompanying visual album Black Is King, and her earth-shattering Homecoming film and live album.
