Taika Waititi says it would be a ‘crime’ not to have nude scene in Thor: Love and Thunder
Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi said it would have been a “crime against humanity” if Chris Hemsworth didn’t have a nude scene in the film.
Hemsworth, who plays the iconic god of thunder, stripped down for a very revealing scene in Thor: Love and Thunder. In a final scene of one trailer, Thor accidentally gets his clothes blown away by Zeus (Russell Crowe) and is ogled by Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) as others in the crowd faint.
The eye-opening moment left many fans with their collective jaws on the floor and has become the most replayed section of the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer.
Waititi – who not only directed the Marvel film but also plays Kronan warrior Korg – revealed in an interview with ComicBook.com that he knows exactly how much people wanted to see the buff Australian actor’s assets.
He said the scene where Zeus flicked Thor’s clothes off to reveal the nude god was “in the first draft of the script” and said Hemsworth was totally “on board”. Waititi joked it would’ve been a “crime against humanity” not to provide such a thirst-inducing “gift” “for the masses”.
“You know, I think you have a body like Chris, like, you know, even he understands,” Waititi said. “It would be just, it would be a waste to not show it off.”
He continued: “It would be a crime against humanity. So, you know, it’s, you have to provide for the masses.”
Thor: Love and Thunder follows after the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and sees the god embark on a personal journey in order to find inner peace. But Thor is forced to return to action and recruit Valkyrie, Korg and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) – who has become the Mighty Thor – to stop Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) from destroying all gods.
Hemsworth told Vanity Fair that he would have said goodbye to the character, who he has played since 2011’s Thor, if it hadn’t been for Waititi deciding to return.

The actor said he’s loved the “journey” that he’s been on with Thor as he’s grown alongside the character for “10, 11 years now”, adding both have “crossed over into each other’s world from time to time”.
“I don’t know that I would’ve done another if Taika hadn’t said yes, he was going to do it,” Hemsworth said.
He continued: “He had written this beautiful script which was a wacky, crazy, romantic comedy set in space and that I hadn’t seen before.
“And I thought, ‘Cool, I have a way into this, and it sounds like a lot of fun’.”
Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in cinemas on 8 July.
