Republican congressional hopeful wants LGBTQ+ allies executed for treason

Pastor and Republican hopeful Mark Burns has claimed that parents and teachers who talk about LGBTQ+ topics with children pose a “national security threat”.

Burns in running in South Carolina’s 4th District Republican primary on Tuesday (14 June) against three other candidates.

In an appearance on The Stew Peters Show last week, Burns said that he would vote to encourage the persecution of LGBTQ+ ‘indoctrinators’ if he is successful.

“The LGBT transgender grooming [of] our children’s minds is a national security threat because it is ultimately designed to destabilise the republic we call the United States of America,” Burns said, according to Newsweek.

“That’s why, when I’m elected, I don’t want to just vote. I want to start holding people accountable for treason to the Constitution. I am going to push to reenact HUAC.”

Burns said he wants to relaunch the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) to hold people “accountable for treason”.

The committee was first established in 1938 to locate communist threats.

“We need to hold people for treason,” he said.

“[And] start having some public hearings and start executing people who are found guilty for their treasonous acts against the Constitution of the United States of America. Just like they did back in 1776.”

Burns also attacked young trans people, saying that there is “no such thing as trans kids, there’s only abusive parents”.

He remarked that parents and teachers who are educating children on LGBTQ+ topics such as gender identity should be “immediately terminated” and “held for abusing young children”.

He then compared the discussion of LGBTQ+ topics to the “indoctrination of children in Nazi Germany”, saying the “same thing” is happening in America.

After his TV appearance, Burns emphasised his horrific views to Newsweek, condemning pro-LGBTQ+ media outlets for going “easy on sex abuse and trafficking and grooming of minors”, which he said should be “punishable by death”.

Elsewhere on The Stew Peters Show, Burns blasted “Joe Biden’s gun-grabbing Second Amendment law”, saying that politicians are trying “to come after our guns, to confiscate our guns”.

On 12 June, Senate negotiators announced a deal for increased gun safety measures which will include stronger background checks for under-21s and banning domestic abusers from purchasing guns. However, Congress remains divided on more progressive measures.
