Nike launches its bold ‘Be True’ apparel and footwear collection to celebrate Pride Month

Nike has unveiled its Be True collection to mark Pride Month.

Nike has unveiled its Be True collection to celebrate Pride Month and the LGBTQ+ community.

The collection features apparel, that aims to look beyond the tradition rainbow design and footwear, with new takes on the brand’s classic silhouettes.

Nike say the Be True collection is “a celebration of love and its power to unite people through identity, expression, and sport”.

The first pieces are now available to shop at nike.com/gb and nike.com, while the full collection will be released on 13 June.

The brand is releasing the Be True editions of the Nike Cortez, which feature colourful, overlapping swooshes alongside blue and pink laces.

There’s also a lightweight and bold Nike Oneonta Be True sandal and the Nike SB Dunk Low Pros, with a classic white upper that rubs away to reveal an array of colour underneath.

The apparel pieces in the collection include the Nike Max90 tie-dye t-shirt and hoodie, both in two different colourways.

Nike says they represent “fluidity”, with a a blue, pink and white design, which looks to be a nod to the trans flag and a black and grey edition.

There’s also the Nike Sunday Shorts that feature the Be True logo and the Nike logo in a rainbow design.

You can also customise your sneakers with features including rub-away details and shoelace colours to match your style.

Nike say the Be True collection is the brand’s continued commitment to uplift, invest and educate through community grants and powerful storytelling.

They’ve teamed up with five inspiring changemakers as they share their stories and shed light on the issues that impact the LGBTQ+ community.

This includes trans swimmer Schuyler Bailar, dancer Honey Balenciaga, culture analyst Andrew McCaskill, softball player Aleshia Ocasio and artist Chella Man.

Bailar, who was the first transgender athlete to compete in any sport on an NCAA Division 1 men’s team says: “Kids don’t need education, they need inspiration.

“They need to be shown who they can be because they already are that.”
