All Stars 7 frontrunner Jinkx Monsoon shares Drag Race game plan

After turning down an alliance with two fellow Drag Race stars, Jinkx Monsoon has revealed that “going solo” was always part of her game plan for All Stars 7.

As the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race season five, it was no surprise that Jinkx Monsoon sashayed onto our screens once again for the much-hyped all-winners season All Stars 7.

The latest season of All Stars has seen a somewhat unsuccessful alliance between Trinity the Tuck and Monét X Change, with multiple queens having turned down opportunities to join the partnership. The two co-winners of All Stars 4 formed an alliance between themselves from the get-go, meaning neither would block the other from receiving a Legendary Legend Star throughout the competition.

Opening up on her decision to stay solo, Monsoon told Entertainment Weekly that while she was “flattered” to have been asked to join Monét and Trinity’s alliance, it wasn’t part of her “game plan”.

“I had a very clear-cut game plan for the whole season, and an alliance wasn’t part of that,” she explained.

“Even though it was tempting and flattering, I had to stick to my instincts of knowing that I had already mapped out how I was going to play this game and I didn’t want to be derailed.”

However, Jinkx confirmed that there is no drama between herself and the alliance: “I have nothing against them, everyone’s entitled to play how they want, but for me going solo was the way I saw this working out.”

The queen also revealed why she hasn’t been saying her iconic mantra “water off a duck’s back” in All Stars 7, saying it was “more of an internal monologue”.

I don’t like to give too much weight to fan criticisms, but I did notice that my first time on season five, there were times I saw people saying things like, ‘A winner isn’t someone who has to talk themselves up like Jinkx does,’ and there was a part of me that wanted to show that I had that strength within myself without having to remind myself…” she said.

Despite having decided to stay solo, Monsoon said that if she is to get blocked again, it “just lights a fire under me to win another challenge”.

New episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7 drop on Paramount Plus in the US and WOW Presents Plus in the UK every Friday.
