Jennifer Lopez thanks 'those who broke my heart' in emotional MTV Awards speech

Singer, actor and undeniable icon Jennifer Lopez broke down in tears as she thanked Ben Affleck while accepting the Generation Award at the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2022.

With a filmography that has made her one of the biggest Hollywood stars of the 21st century, 52-year-old Lopez also thanked her children, long-time manager Benny Medina and everyone who didn’t believe in her in the emotional speech.

“I want to thank all the people who gave me this life,” said an emotional J-Lo. “I want to thank the people who gave me joy and the ones who broke my heart.

“I want to thank all the people who told me to my face, or when I wasn’t in the room, that I couldn’t do this.”

“I really don’t think I could have done this without you” she continued. Her touching speech was met with cheers by the crowd, as the “On The Floor” singer thanked “the fans who saw the movies” and began to tear up.

Giving a special mention to her twin children who were born in 2008, J-Lo said: “I want to thank disappointment and failure for teaching me to be strong and my children for teaching me to love.”

She also gave a rare shout-out to fiancé Ben Affleck – despite being known for keeping the details of their relationship under wraps.

“Ben and everybody at home, wait for me to have dinner! I’ll be home at 7pm,” she quipped, before leaving the stage.

Alongside the Generation Award, Jennifer Lopez also took home the award for Best Song for “On My Way (Marry Me)”, which was written for her 2022 film Marry Me.

As 2022 has already proven to be a whirlwind year for the chart-topping superstar, Lopez is treating fans to a behind-the-scenes look at her life in upcoming documentary, Halftime.

The film will premiere at Tribeca Film Festival on June 8 before streaming on Netflix from June 14.
