Heartstopper star Kit Connor has revealed he has a “fat crush” crush on Hugh Grant – and who can blame him?

The 18-year-old, who plays Nick Nelson in the heartwarming Netflix series, gushed over Grant and explained how Notting Hill helped him “break the ice” with co-star Joe Locke.

Connor said the rom-com is his “comfort film”

“In terms of a film, I don’t know why, but Notting Hill has always been like my … I just put it on,” Kit Connor said at the BFI & Radio Times Television Festival in London on 22 May.

He even quoted Grant’s iconic line in the film, “whoopsie daisies”, before adding: “I have such a fat crush on Hugh Grant.”

Connor explained that in an early photoshoot for Heartstopper, he and Joe Locke were told to “just talk” while their pictures were taken.

“Well, I don’t know what to talk about,” Connor recalled.

“In my mind, I just think: Hugh Grant. So, I start to be like, ‘Notting Hill’, and he says… he hasn’t seen Notting Hill, so I was just, I was about to…”

Connor’s love for Notting Hill and Hugh Grant sent his fans into overdrive. Grant’s name even became one of the most trending words on Twitter by Sunday evening.

On 20 May, Netflix renewed Heartstopper, based on the webcomic by Alice Oseman, for not one but two more seasons.

Kit Connor said he has “no clue” what will happen in the new seasons – but he has his hopes. “I suppose what I’d like to see for Nick, I think just strengthening Nick and Charlie’s relationship,” he said.

“In season one, we very much see the young love and the beginnings of their relationship. And I think it would be lovely, you know – not just to act – also just to see as well their relationship just, sort of, get stronger and blossom.”
