Eurovision fans outraged as Ireland crashes out and ‘too many’ ballads sail through

Eurovision fans are shocked that Ireland was “slept on” and denied a spot in the finals in favour of several ballads.
The second semi-final of Eurovision 2022 took place on Thursday (12 May) in Turin, Italy, with 18 countries fighting for 10 spots in the finale on Saturday (14 May).
Ireland’s Brook Scullion unfortunately failed to qualify with her song “That’s Rich”, about a self-obsessed ex-lover, despite being a fan favourite.
The 23-year-old said in an emotional Instagram video: “It didn’t go our way, but we are so, so happy with what we did.”
“Maybe it just wasn’t for me, but maybe in the future bigger things are going to come.”
This was not the first disappointment of the semi-finals, with Latvia’s iconic “Eat Your Salad” by Citi Zēni, which opens with the lyrics “instead of meat I eat veggies and p***y” also not making it through to the Eurovision finals.

Going into the Eurovision final from the second semi-final are: Australia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Poland, Romania, Serbia, and Sweden.
Not everyone is happy with the results, however, with Twitter users criticising the number of ballads that have gone through compared to more typical Eurovision “bops”.
One Twitter user said: “I’m sorry but Eurovision is literally the gay flamboyant music festival and Austria, Latvia, San Marino and Ireland didn’t qualify? Nothing is left, only boring ballads for old people.”
Another Twitter user complained that the jury “slept on” Ireland “just like I slept during the ballads”.

One person said Europe has “not passed the vibe check” after the semi-final results came through. “How did Ireland and San Marino [not qualify] while BELGIUM is in?”

Another Eurovision fan said: “Deeply disturbed at how many fun, flirty, nutty entries never made it through… No San Marino, no Ireland, Jeez! So It has to be Finland for the win!”
The final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 will air on BBC1 at 8pm on Saturday (14 May).
