It’s a Sin fans ‘speechless’ and ‘gutted’ after iconic show fails to win a single BAFTA TV Award

Despite being the most-nominated TV series at this years awards, groundbreaking drama It’s a Sin did not take home a single BAFTA TV Award – and fans are furious.
Between the BAFTA TV awards and the BAFTA TV Craft Awards, It’s a Sin swept up 11 nominations, including Olly Alexander for Best Actor and Lydia West for Best Actress.
Callum Scott Howells, Omari Douglas, and David Carlyle were all nominated for Supporting Actor, while the show’s creator Russell T Davies was up for the award for Writer: Drama.
Last month at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards, the show won two awards for directing and editing, but fans were devastated when the heart-wrenching yet joyful show, which follows a group of friends living through the AIDS crisis in 1980s London, went home without a single award on Sunday (8 May).
I appear to have slipped into an inconceivable parallel universe where ‘It’s a Sin’ didn’t win every BAFTA going.

TV critic Scott Bryan tweeted: “It’s a Sin won two awards at the BAFTA Craft Awards this year – for Best Editor and Director.
“Yet is ASTOUNDING that they won nothing at the BAFTA TV Awards tonight. I am speechless.
“One of the most necessary, powerful, life-affirming dramas in recent years, shining a light on LGBTQ+ history and receiving viewer and critical acclaim. And yet no awards tonight.
“It’s a Sin will be a drama that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Know I’m far from the only one.
“I’m still angry about all of this and will be for a long time. An upside was that many people at the ceremony thought the same thing: it was the talking point of the whole evening.”

Author Malorie Blackman added: “No disrespect to the BAFTA winners tonight but how did It’s a Sin not receive a single award? That series was phenomenal.”
“Congrats to all the BAFTA winners,” tweeted writer and director James Moran.
“Gutted for It’s a Sin, thought it was going to clean up, but nothing. Such is the way of voted awards, though, sometimes this happens. What a shame. There hasn’t been a *day* since that I haven’t thought about that show. Life changing.”
One fan pointed out, however, that despite a BAFTA snub, It’s a Sin‘s legacy would endure.
“It’s a Sin deserved a BAFTA, but what the series achieved outweighs any accolade: thousands raised for HIV charities, a rise in HIV testing, and changing the minds of millions,” they wrote.
