Lizzo treats Met Gala to impromptu performance on $55,000 flute: ‘I’m a bad b***h’
Lizzo was one of the biggest winners of the night on the Met Gala red carpet.
The Met Gala doesn’t hand out awards – it’s a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute – but if it did, Lizzo would have swept the board.
The theme of the night was Gilded Glamour, and to say Lizzo understood the assignment would be an understatement.
The singer, Yitty CEO and all-round icon walked the red carpet in sweeping black coat by designer Thom Browne, with intricate gold hand-embroidery, and carried a matching gold flute.

“I’m a bad bitch,” Lizzo said on the Met Gala red carpet.
“I just do what bad bitches do. This coat took 22,000 hours to make, this flute is a rare $55,000 flute, and I’m in Thom Browne. It’s hugging my curves just right and I look amazing.”
Lizzo proceeded to disrobe, revealing a black corset dress underneath her coat, and played the rare flute for assembled reporters.

Game over, everybody else go home.
The 2022 Met Gala was co-chaired by Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Tom Ford, Instagram’s Adam Mosseri and Vogue editor Anna Wintour served as honorary co-chairs, as they have in recent years.
Among the most-talked about looks of the evening was Kim Kardashian’s. The reality star wore the dress Marilyn Monroe wore to sing “Happy Birthday” to John F Kennedy; it holds the record for most expensive dress sold at auction and is usually stored in a temperature controlled vault.
Lively also won praise for her Gilded Glamour creation: a copper strapless gown by Versace that unwrapped to reveal a long turqoise train.
Janelle Monae served futuristic glamour in a glittering Ralph Lauren gown, while Tommy Dorfman was among those using the red carpet to send an important message, carrying a minaudière with the words “Protect Trans Kids” on it.
