Lady Gaga drops new song and fans think she just secured another Oscar
Lady Gaga has released “Hold My Hand”, from the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick.
Gaga penned and produced the soaring power ballad with regular collaborator BloodPop.
She said ahead of its release: “When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick, I didn’t even realise the multiple layers it spanned across the film’s heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we’ve been living in.
“I’ve been working on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours… This song is a love letter to the world during and after a very hard time. I’ve wanted you to hear it for so long.”
The song is taken from the upcoming Tom Cruise sequel. The original Top Gun won the Oscar for Best Original Song, for Tom Whitlock and Giorgio Moroder’s “Take My Breath Away”.
Lady Gaga won the same award in 2019, for “Shallow”, from A Star Is Born, and fans are confident she’s about to repeat the trick.

“Hold My Hand” comes a year after the release of Chromatica, Lady Gaga’s sixth studio album.
She is about to embark on her Chromatica Ball tour, which was postponed due to the pandemic.
Last month, Gaga gave the performance of the night before winning big at the 2022 Grammys.
She received a standing ovation after a breathtaking tribute to her regular collaborator, Tony Bennett.
Backed by a big band arrangement, Gaga belted out a version of Cole Porter’s “Love for Sale”, dedicating the song to Bennett.
“I love you, Tony,” she said, adding: “We miss you.”
Gaga and Bennett later won the Grammy for Traditional Pop Vocal Album for their 2021 collaboration, Love for Sale, a collection of Porter standards.
