Drag Race icon Aja making TV return to compete in ballroom show Legendary

Drag Race star Aja to compete in Legendary

Drag Race alum Aja LaBeija is set to make her TV return in style after it was confirmed that she will be one of the competitors in the third season of HBO Max’s Legendary.

The drag icon famously joined the Royal House of LaBeija in 2021, which was founded by drag queen Crystal LaBeija in the early 1970s.

Now The House of LaBeija will be one of the 10 houses competing for a $100,000 grand prize on season three of the reality competition series.

The competition is largely centred around voguing, though it also features several other ballroom categories including face and body.

Aja will be one of five LaBeija house members featured on the show, along with Frida LaBeija, Jelani LaBeija, Zenith LaBeija, and Father Soho LaBeija.

In the early 90s, the House of LaBeija gained greater recognition thanks to Pepper LaBeija’s appearance in the documentary Paris is Burning. As some Drag Race fans will remember, Aja impersonated Crystal LaBeija for Snatch Game.

Sharing the trailer for the highly-anticipated season on her Instagram, the All Stars 3 star shouted out the legendary figures from her house as she wrote: “In the name of Crystal and Pepper LaBeija, the new generation of LaBeija has arrived to carry on the iconic name.”

Season three of the show sees actress Keke Palmer taking Megan Thee Stallion‘s spot on the judging panel alongside Jameela Jamil, Law Roach and Leiomy Maldonado and MC Dashaun Wesley.

The Nope star will even be taking to the stage at some point during the season to perform, as hinted in the trailer.

Guest judges set to appear throughout the season include RuPaul’s Drag Race season eight winner Bob the Drag Queen, Insecure‘s Issa Rae and Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland.

Legendary season three premieres on 19 May in the US on HBO Max.
