The Ultimatum’s Rae Williams has opened up about her relationship status after coming out as bisexual in the Netflix show’s reunion special.

The Netflix reality TV show, hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, follows couples who are considering marriage. In each couple, one person is ready to commit while the other isn’t as sure – prompting the partner to issue an ultimatum to get married or break up.

Williams’ relationship with Zay Wilson ended before the end of the show. She revealed during the reunion episode that she is bisexual and had been in a relationship with a woman since appearing on the show.

In a series of Instagram stories, Williams shared some new life updates with fans on Instagram after the reunion special aired. She revealed that she is currently single after one fan asked for the Netflix star to “show us your girl”, Today reported.

“The girl I got with after the show is very private and we have kinda taken a step back the past few months with everything going on and the show coming out but we are still very close and hope to revisit things after the summer,” she wrote. “I’m single and in therapy.”

Williams also shared that she had already told Wilson and Jake Cunningham – another contestant who Williams moved in with for a three-week “trial marriage” – that she was bisexual before coming out publicly during the reunion.

“Zay knew because I dated a girl before him,” she said. “I also told Jake before we made the choice.”

She added: “Both Zay and Jake are not homophobic or bigoted and that was very important to me.”

During the reunion special, Rae Williams said that she had used the time since breaking up with Wilson and appearing on the show to understand her sexuality. She described how she has been “kind of figuring out myself and my sexuality” as she had been “very uncomfortable with being bi for a very long time”.

The Ultimatum has already been renewed for a second season and will feature an all-queer, mostly female cast in the upcoming series

Executive producer Chris Coelen told Variety that the show is based on a “very real relatable conversation and situation” for many people who have either been in that scenario or know someone who has.

“What’s fascinating is when you actually look at the reasons that people give for not being ready, there are a multitude of reasons — ‘I come from a family background of bad relationships. I don’t want to repeat my past’ or ‘I’m not ready, I’m too young’ or ‘I need to be financially stable’,” Coelen said.

Coelen added there may be “some validity to some of those reasons” but believed the “real reason” is that “they’re not sure that they want to marry this person” that they’re in a relationship with.

Netflix has not yet announced when the all-queer season of The Ultimatum will be released on the streaming platform.
