Eurovision 2022: when is the final, which city is hosting and who are the entries?

Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is taking place next month – and this is everything you need to know.

The annual event will see 40 countries participate to win the coveted song contest.

This year the event is taking place in Turin, Italy, the home country of last year’s iconic winners, Maneskin.

It’ll take place across a week in May, firstly with the semi final heats and then the grand finale, which will award one country with the trophy.

Each year thousands of fans descend on the host city, including LGBT+ fans, who are some of Eurovision’s biggest supporters.

Below you can find out everything you need to know for Eurovision 2022 including air dates, host city and where to stay.

When is Eurovision 2022 taking place?

This year’s Eurovision Song Contest will take place on 14 May. It will air at 9pm (CEST), which is 8pm UK time.

Ahead of the final, there will be two semi finals on 10 and 12 May. This will decide which 20 countries will make it through and join Italy, United Kingdom, France, Germany and Spain in the grand finale.

Who are the Eurovision 2022 entries?

Nation hosts, Italy will be represented by Mahmood and Blanco, with the track “Brividi”. The former previously represented Italy in 2019 and placed second.

The UK will be represented by lockdown singer turned TikTok sensation, Sam Ryder with the song “Space Man”.

After the announcement he said: “Having been a fan of Eurovision since I was a kid l I am so honoured to have been presented with the opportunity to sing at an event alongside some of Europe’s most talented creatives, performers and songwriters.”

It was also confirmed in February that Russia will no longer have an entry at the competition following the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

While Ukraine will be represented by rap group, Kalush Orchestra who will perform the song “Stefania”.

France, Germany and Spain are also guaranteed a place in the final, while the other participants will be decided during the semi finals. They’re represented by Alvan and Ahez for France, Malik Harris for Germany and Chanel for Spain.

This year’s Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Turin, Italy. It’s the home nation of last year’s winners Maneskin, as the victorious country traditionally hosts the competition the following year.

It’s located in the north of Italy and the 13,000 plus capacity venue, Pala Alpitour will host the live show.

It will mark the third time overall that Italy has hosted the competition, previously doing it in 1991 in Rome.

Where to stay in Turin?

If you’ve got your tickets for the live show at Pala Alpitour, or you’re planning a last minute trip to the city, then there’s a number of places you can book.

Eurovision is one of the most popular events in the world, so once Turin was announced as the host city, hotels were snapped up by fans.

According to Booking.com 85 percent of places to stay are unavailable during Eurovision weekend, but there’s still some you can book.

Starhotels Majestic is rated an 8.8 on Booking.com, with lots of reviews noting its location. It’s close to Piazza Castello and the Royal Palace, so you can do some sight seeing during your trip. As its Eurovision weekend this one would set you back £981, but it’s much cheaper during other parts of the year.

If you like to stay in a recognisable, chain hotel then there’s the Holiday Inn Turin Corso Francia, which has an 8.6 rating on Booking.com. It’s located opposite Piazza Massaua Metro Station which can get you round the city.

The Best Quality Hotel Gran Mogol is one of the cheapest hotels left on Booking.com for Eurovision 2022 weekend. It’s currently priced at £594 for two nights in Turin and has an 8.5 rating.

If you want something with a classic aesthetic then there’s the five-star Grand Hotel Sitea. It’s home to a Michelin starred restaurant, Carignano and has a 9.7 rating for a two-person and its location on Booking.com.

AC Torino Hotel is a five-minute walk from Turin’s main business district. The modern interior is perfect if you’re after something more simple and it offers a spa area with a hot tub and fitness facilities. It has an 8.5 rating on Booking.com and has good availability for Eurovision weekend.
