Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Musical is touring the UK for the first time ever.

The Broadway and West End hit will head to venues across the country in 2022 and 2023.

Based on Roald Dahl’s book of the same name, the live stage adaption will transport audiences into a world of pure imagination.

Tickets for the tour go on general sale from 22 April at ATGTickets.com.

It will premiere at Leeds Playhouse on 18 November, 2022 and then head to Milton Keynes, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Norwich, Cardiff and Canterbury.

The plot, of course, follows Charlie, who wins a golden ticket to the weird and wonderful Wonka Chocolate Factory.

It’s the chance of a lifetime for Charlie and the other winners to feast on the sweets they’ve always dreamed of.

“But beyond the gates astonishment awaits, as down the sugary corridors and amongst the incredible and edible delights, the five lucky winners discover not everything is as sweet as it seems,” the plot reads.

The musical adaption features memorable songs from the 1970s film including “Pure Imagination”, alongside new numbers.

The musical is adapted by David Greig, with music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

It originally premiered in the West End at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 2013, where it ran for three and a half years, and opened on Broadway in 2017.

The show received seven Laurence Olivier Award nominations, winning two, including Best Costume Design.

The book has also been adapted into two films, while a prequel entitled Wonka, is due for release in December 2023.

It will star Timothée Chalamet as the title character, following his early days as an eccentric chocolatier, and fans have already dubbed him “Twonka”, the twink Wonka.
