After coming out as queer, Emeli Sandé has introduced her “soul mate” Yoana to the world, and said she is “happier than ever”.

Last month, Sandé revealed that she had fallen in love with a woman, in an interview with Metro.

The singer, who was previously married to marine biologist Adam Gouraguine, said that she was unsure about labelling her sexuality, but explained: “I just feel like I should fall in love with whoever I fall in love with.”

On Saturday, 2 April, Sandé shared a photo of her partner, Yoana, a classical pianist, to social media.

She wrote: “It’s taken me many years to find the strength to be myself. I’ve struggled for a long time to accept myself as I am.

“I’m so lucky to have found my soul mate Yoana, she’s such an extraordinary woman! Falling in love with her gave me the strength I needed!

“Feels so good to be in love and I feel happier than ever. I’m deeply touched by all your messages of love and support. Thank you so much for your acceptance and kind wishes.

“Feels like a huge weight has been lifted, here’s to a new beginning in truth and happiness!”

Fans were overjoyed, with one writing: “Congratulations are in order Emeli Sandé. I am so happy for you. You deserve to be loved, to be very happy and to have your beautiful ever after.”

“It makes sense,” said another. “Can’t be out there writing masterpieces like that for men, love it for her.”

Emeli Sandé cast a troupe of queer dancers in her new music video

Emeli Sandé recently released the music video for her new song “There Isn’t Much”, for which she cast and all-queer troupe of dancers.

The songs lyrics include: “Look at all my stuff, you would think I had enough, but I swear it isn’t much, without you.”

Speaking with Metro, she said that the song was about “everything I thought I wanted being nothing without the right person to share it with”.
