The musical spotlights three stages of Cher’s life and uses three actresses to portray her as characters named Babe, Lady and Star.

The touring production of the show will see Debbie Kurup play ‘Star’, Danielle Steers play ‘Lady’ and Millie O’Connell play ‘Babe’.

The trio recently appeared on BBC Breakfast to discuss the show, while Kurup spoke to Metro about the pop culture icon.

“She has that fighting spirit which I identify with,” she said.

“So much of your time when you’re [starting out], you’re playing characters who are answering to a male or are there to facilitate a male’s journey and it’s so nice [now] to actually have these characters that know what they want.

“They have these obstacles to overcome, but it’s [about] finding that inner strength and so much of that comes when you’re older,” she adds.

The synopsis of The Cher Show reads: “From a young kid with big dreams, to the dizzying heights of global stardom, The Cher Show tells the incredible story of Cher’s meteoric rise to fame, flying in the face of convention at every turn.”

The show introduces audiences to some of the most important people in her life including her parents, Sonny Bono and Bob Mackie, and showcase how Cher became a trailblazer in the male-dominated industry.

It features hits from her extensive back catalogue with “If I Could Turn Back Time”, “I Got You Babe”, “Strong Enough”, “The Shoop Shoop Song” and “Believe”.

The UK version of The Cher Show will be directed by Arlene Phillips, choreographed by two-time Strictly Come Dancing winner Oti Mabuse with costume designs by Gabriella Slade who worked on the recent 2019 Spice World Tour.

The musical originally opened on Broadway in late 2018 where it received three Tony Award nominations, winning two including Best Actress and Best Costume Design for Bob Mackie.

Mackie is responsible for some of Cher’s most iconic costumes including for her variety TV series, Las Vegas residencies and recent elaborate outfits for her worldwide tours.

Tickets for the The Cher Show are now on sale from ATG Tickets here or Ticketmaster here.
