The musical opened in February in Portsmouth with a special guest appearance from Queen’s Brian May, who joined the cast to perform on guitar.

Following its debut, the show will head to Liverpool, Cardiff, Birmingham, Newcastle and Sheffield before finishing up in Manchester.

Penned by Ben Elton, the 20th anniversary edition of the show “boasts the scale and spectacle that marked the band’s legendary live performances”.

It features songs including, “Killer Queen”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Radio Ga Ga” and of course the title track, originally sung by the group’s gay frontman, Freddie Mercury.

The show is set in the distant future where musical instruments and composers are forbidden and rock music is all but unknown.

It tells the story of a group of Bohemians who struggle to restore the free exchange of thought, fashion and live music while everyone dresses, thinks and acts the same.

The confirmed cast will see Ian McIntosh play Galileo, Elena Skye as Scaramouche, Jenny O’Leary as Killer Queen and Adam Strong as Khashoggi.

The musical originally premiered in 2002 at the Dominion Theatre and went on to become one of the longest-running show’s in West End history.

Later this year the actual Queen – including May – will be touring the UK with Adam Lambert as part of The Rhapsody Tour.

They’ll visit venues across the UK and Europe between May and July, performing the group’s biggest hits.
