Drag Race UK’s Blu Hydrangea confirms pronouns after emotional chat about gender journey

Drag Race UK vs The World star Blu Hydrangea has shared their pronouns following a heartfelt discussion about gender in the werkroom.
On Tuesday (8 February), Blu Hydrangea, who initially graced our screens in the first season of Drag Race UK, revealed on Twitter: “My pronouns out of drag are he/ they and in drag she/ they!”
Blu sharing his pronouns came after he opened up to Cheryl Hole and Jujubee about his “struggle” with drag and gender.
“The main thing that I struggled with with drag is that I found I put Blu first,” they explained.
“She was this beautiful creature that I turned into and that was the only time that I was confident in my body.”

Blu Hydrangea said that these feelings caused “confusion” around their gender, and added: “I was so happy as Blu that there was this, like, gender dysphoria I suppose.”
She continued: “At one point I thought I was trans, I didn’t understand what was wrong with me, why I wasn’t happy with myself.”
Blu said they spent years with “a lot of things floating about in my mind about my gender”, only sharing their feelings with their partner and keeping it a secret from the rest of the world.
“In Northern Ireland, it’s so far backwards, you don’t learn about these things. For me, it was people on the show finding themselves, being on the show with people like Divina [De Campo] who was so well educated, it made me realise that gender is such a spectrum.
“I don’t know where I fall on it, but I know that I’m not male or female. I’m just somewhere in between.”
Fans were bursting with pride, praising the Drag Race UK icon for using her platform to share such an important conversation, and for her honesty and bravery.

One wrote on Twitter: “Blu your moment tonight, talking about finding your gender was heartfelt and important. Sending you so much love.”
Another told them: “You’re so inspiring because I’ve also made the same realisation about myself.
“Thank you for letting me know I’m not the only one feeling this way. The pronouns are the same for me.”

“This conversation about gender identity was so IMPORTANT, especially putting it (as she ALWAYS does) in a Northern Irish context,” said a third.
“She’s right, we need much better sex, relationship AND GENDER education here.”
Elsewhere on Drag Race UK vs The World, Janey Jacké bounced back from the bottom, finding herself in the top two with frontrunner Jimbo and winning the lip sync.
It was down to her to send either Cheryl Hole or Jujubee home, both having failed to impress RuPaul in the ball challenge. In the end, it was Cheryl’s time to leave.
