Jeopardy! champ Amy Schneider has decided it’s time to say goodbye to her 9-5 after her historic run on the game show.

Schneider won the hearts of Jeopardy! fans during her incredible 40-game run which saw her land the record for the second-longest streak in the program’s history.

On Tuesday (8 February) the 42-year-old revealed her decision to step away from her day job as a software engineering manager.

“Some of you may have heard, but I quit my day job yesterday!” she wrote on Twitter. “It’s a bit nerve-wracking to pivot from software engineer to… public figure, I guess?”

The California-based star added: “But regardless of the outcome I’m so excited to spend the next couple years at least tackling this new challenge!”

Amy Schneider didn’t share further details on her “new challenge” but the TV personality will certainly be able to take her time before jumping to her new role.

She made Jeopardy! history as the first woman to break $1 million, ultimately winning nearly $1.4 million (£1 million) in prize money.

Schneider also became the first trans person to ever qualify for the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions – meaning she will return to screens later this year.

In a recent interview with the New York Post, the game show champ hinted that travelling was in her immediate plans as she stated.

The Jeopardy! sensation is sure to become a familiar face,a s she recently signed with Hollywood talent agency CAA, which reps the likes of Zendaya and Tom Hanks.

She’s considering writing a book, and told the Post: “It’s something I’d love to do… My main focus right now is figuring out what exactly that book might look like; there are a lot of things I’m passionate about.”
