Euphoria serves gay yeehaw realness with tender, near shot-for-shot tribute to Brokeback Mountain

Euphoria has served up queer excellence with a perfect tribute to the critically-acclaimed gay classic Brokeback Mountain.
Episode four of Euphoria’s drama-filled second season began with a heartfelt montage celebrating the relationship between Rue (Zendaya) and Jules (Hunter Schafer). The segment positions Jules and Rue as characters in some of the most well-known pop culture romances.
The pair reenacted the pottery wheel moment in Ghost, the bow of the ship scene in Titanic and even are transported the kiss scene from the animated Sleeping Beauty.
The heartwarming sequence ended with a near shot-for-shot remake of the iconic scene from Brokeback Mountain where Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) make love for the first time in a tiny tent.
Jules is stunning as Ennis, Rue is an utterly convincing Jack and there’s even an adorable live pony just chilling in the background.
Fans were absolutely besides themselves when it came to the lighthearted tribute to the queer film.

In a recent interview with EW, Schafer gushed about how much fun she had with the opening scene. She shared that she is a big Brokeback Mountain fan, but she never thought she would have the opportunity to “emulate” the film.
But when they were given the go-ahead to recreate the scene, Schafer said she and Zendaya gave it their all – including breaking out some “Southern accents” to play the Wyoming-based cowboys.
“And that was fun for me and Z just because we got to do our Southern accents and act like kind of old withered Southern dudes who were secretly gay for each other,” Schafer said. “It was just fun on set for that.”
She also had fun recreating the pottery wheel scene from Ghost, which features a shirtless Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) sitting behind Molly Jensen (Demi Moore) as she carefully sculpts wet clay.
The Euphoria star described the renowned scene as nothing short of “iconic” but said she was just excited to get to “play with the pottery wheel while we were filming”.
“That was really fun,” Schafer said.
