Jeopardy! champ Amy Schneider shares secret to incredible winning streak after making history again

Jeopardy! champ Amy Schneider has made history once again, tied for second-longest winning streak in the competition’s history.

On Friday (21 January), Schneider matched previous Jeopardy! champion Matt Amodio’s second-place record of 38 games, and so must win just one more game on Monday (24 January) to overtake him.

Ken Jennings, a current Jeopardy! co-host, holds the top spot with his 2004 winning streak of 74 consecutive games.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Schneider was asked about the secret to her incredible success.

She said: “I’m not really sure about a lot of it; I never expected to do this well, but I think the main secret is just being curious and spending my life learning a lot of stuff.”

To date Schneider, he first ever trans contestant to secure a place in the show’s Tournament of Champions, has won $1,307,200 (£970,269), and is the fourth player and first woman in the show’s history to earn more than $1 million in non-tournament play.

But the best part about being on the gameshow, she said, “has been being on TV as my true self, expressing myself and representing the entire community of trans people and … just being, you know, a smart, confident woman and doing something super normal like being on Jeopardy!“.

Amy Schneider has expertly shut down anti-trans trolls

While Amy Schneider is making great strides for trans representation by appearing one of America’s most beloved and longest-running gameshows, she has also been targeted with anti-trans online hate.

Last month, she epically shut down the trolls sending her transphobic comments on social media.

She wrote on Twitter: “I’d like to thank all the people who have taken the time, during this busy holiday season, to reach out and explain to me that, actually, I’m a man.”

Schneider continued: “Every single one of you is the first person ever to make that very clever point, which had never once before crossed my mind.”

The Jeopardy! community rallied around Schneider, with one former contestant responding: “Laugh all the way to the bank, Amy. Your fellow women of Jeopardy! have your back.”
