Succession reimagined as thrilling gay rom-com in eye-opening trailer and fans are obsessed

Succession star Matthew McFayden as Tom Wambsgans and Nicholas Braun as ‘Cousin’ Greg Hirsch

Succession viewers have long believed there is more to the story when it comes to ‘Cousin’ Greg Hirsch (Nicholas Braun) and Tom Wambsgans (Matthew McFayden), and now one clever fan has reimagined the show as a gay rom-com about the pair.

Indeed, the HBO drama famously kept fans gripped thanks to the never-ending back-stabbing between the members of the Roy family.

But it turns out there’s a beautiful love story hidden beneath the constant swearing and scathing jabs – kinda.

YouTuber Liminal proved that the unique dynamic between Greg and Tom provides more than enough content to create a truly intriguing romantic comedy, as they blessed the internet with a sensational Succession fan edit.

In the new take, Greg moves to New York to get help from his family only to find himself connecting with Tom.

Soon the pair develop a close connection during their time working together, confiding in each other and sticking up for one another.

“There are vibes,” Tom says at one point – and we can totally agree with that. Why else would Tom be asking Greg for a kiss?

In fact, the trailer once again reminds us all about the many flirty jokes, intimate conversations and emotionally-charged interactions that the pair have shared over the past three seasons.

The trailer even appears to hint that Kendall’s (Jeremy Strong) close relationship with Greg could see him as the other man in the beloved “love triangle” trope.

If this brilliantly edited clip doesn’t make you crave Tom and Greg’s love story, then we don’t know what will.

Viewers heaped praise on the Succession rom-com edit as one wrote: “OK I’m not exaggerating when i say this is the best thing i have ever seen THE EDITING IS AMAZING.”

“This genuinely made me excited for a romcom that will never exist and i both hate & love you for it,” another added.

The Succession season three finale certainly saw the duo’s relationship take an important step forward, when Tom asked his protégé if he would willing to become his “attack dog”.

“Do you want to make a deal with the devil?” Tom asked, before Greg responded: “What am I going to do with a soul anyway? Boo souls.”

Little did Greg know that Tom was selling out his wife Shiv (Sarah Snook) in order to get in good with family patriarch Logan (Brian Cox), a move that left viewers stunned.

In fact, Shiv was also surprised by the fact her husband chose to be loyal to her father, and the season ended with her recoiling in fury after realising she had been bested by her husband.

Time will tell what comes next for Tom and Greg when the show returns to screens later this year.

Succession is available on Sky Atlantic and Now TV.
