Demi Lovato just introduced the world to their latest ink: a tattoo of a spider above their ear.

Lovato is no stranger to daring aesthetic choices. Last month, they debuted their shaved head in a post shared with the hashtag “#freshstart”.

They debuted their latest ink on an Instagram story. By way of explanation, they also posted a quote: “It was Grandmother Spider who taught us many things. She taught us about pottery and weaving. She taught us about fire and light and dark. She taught us that we are all connected on the web each one of us having our place in this world.”

The artwork was reportedly created by famous tattooist, Dr Woo. InTouch has said that the quote is taken from Cherokee story, “Grandmother Spider Brings the Light.”

Demi Lovato came out as non-binary in May 2021.

Lovato told fans in an emotional social media post that they had been “doing some healing and self-reflective work” in the past year.

The singer explained they/them pronouns captured the “fluidity I feel in my gender expression” and “allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I know I am and still am discovering”.

In a virtual appearance at the 19th Represents Summit in August, they shared that opening up about their gender was vital to their “healing process”.

“Being non-binary, what that means is that I’m so much more than the binary of man and woman,” Lovato explained.

“And that we are all so much more if we allow ourselves the ability to look within ourselves and challenge that binary that we’ve grown up living in.”

The star has also surprised fans by announcing that they would date an alien, after launching a series based on extra-terrestrials.

“If there was an ET that hit every box of criteria that would be like the most ideal partner, would you date an ET?” asked host Becky G on her show, Face to Face With Becky G on Facebook Watch.

“Yes, absolutely, replied Lovato with a laugh. “I am so tired of humans and their human bulls**t! I am so over it! Bring me an alien!”
