Marvel leak teases Valkyrie and Captain Marvel finally coming together and fans can’t cope

Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Brie Larson as Captain Marvel

Marvel fans are getting very excited about the possibility of queer superhero Valkyrie making an appearance in the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel.

Marvel fans have been openly shipping Captain Marvel and Valkyrie as a future couple within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), so it’s no surprise that the idea of the two sharing a screen in The Marvels has left fans in a frenzy.

Valkyrie is bisexual in the comic books. Played in the MCU by Tessa Thompson, she’s set to return in Thor: Love and Thunder where she’ll explore her queerness and “find her queen”.

That film is due for release in summer 2022. Now, a new set photo from The Marvels suggests that Valkyrie will return again in The Marvels in 2023.

Actress Zenobia Shroff shared an Instagram post which gave a glimpse of headshots for cast members in the makeup trailer.

Eagle-eyed fans couldn’t help but recognise that one of the women was Thompson, whose character is yet to be announced as starring in the movie.

Marvel fans couldn’t contain their excitement.

Fans are obsessed with the idea of Valkyrie and Captain Marvel as girlfriends, and actors Tessa Thompson and Brie Larson have added fuel to the speculation on a number of occasions – including one time when they both shared fan art that depicted their characters as a couple.

Thompson has already told fans to expect a queer storyline when Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in cinemas in July.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige also confirmed that Valkyrie will be visibly queer in the film, adding: “The answer is yes… how that impacts the story remains to be seen with that level of representation you’ll see across our films, not in just Thor 4.

The MCU introduced gay superhero Phastos (played by Brian Tyree Henry) earlier this year with the release of The Eternals.

The character, who is in a same-sex marriage, shared an on-screen kiss with his husband (played by Haaz Sleiman).
