JoJo Siwa’s rumoured girlfriend Katie Mills has apologised for liking an anti-trans post and addressed making pro-Trump comments.
Rumours have swirled that Katie Mills and JoJo Siwa are dating since they began sharing videos of each other on TikTok, and were spotted attending a Los Angeles Lakers game together last week.
Neither has confirmed the relationship. But after Siwa’s fans discovered Mills was at one point in time a supporter of anti-LGBT+ former president Donald Trump, the TikTok star has spoken out.
One TikTok video, which has garnered over a million views, appeared to show that Mills had retweeted a post in November 2020 which read: “I’m sorry @realDonaldTrump we let you down”.
Another TikTok user posted a video of Mills and JoJo Siwa dancing together, juxtaposed with other pro-Trump tweets from 2020.
One post from 29 September that year read: “lord help us if Biden gets elected”.
Mills also apparently retweeted another post that claimed Trump won in 2016 “because he is not a politician”, and called him “a fighter for the American people”.

Mills has also been criticised for favouriting a post in 2018 that questioned whether trans women are “actually women”, and was called out for cultural appropriation, with pictures appearing to show that she wore cornrows as a Kendrick Lamar costume
Katie Mills apologised for the social media posts and spoke out about her problematic past in a lengthy thread posted on Twitter.
She began by stating there is “stuff that Trump did that I DO support” and things that she “DID NOT support”, which she said is “the same way for Biden”.
She then claimed that some of her “bestest and most dearest friends” are from “different races”, but admitting that she took part in the “ghetto girl TikTok trend that was going around” at the “beginning of 2020”.
“I was young and dumb and didn’t realize how offensive that was,” Mills wrote. “If I could I would take that back in a heart beat! But I can’t, I messed up. I take full responsibility for that.”

Addressing the anti-trans tweet from 2018, Mills said she was “ashamed” for having “liked the comment” as she has known “I was gay since I was like 11 years old”.
Growing up gay was “difficult”, she said, as she was part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often known as the LDS Church or Mormon Church.
“You’re taught marriage is ONLY between a man and woman,” Mills explained. “So when my family found out about me at 13, it was mental and emotionally hard.”
She continued: “My parents tried to hide who I was, sent me to conversion therapy, and made me shun out the LGBTQ+ community.
“I grew up being told by church leaders and bishops that being gay was a mental illness and that there was something wrong with me.”

She acknowledged her background is “not an excuse for that awful tweet I liked”, but she believed it was the “only reason I can think of to why I would ever do that”.
“I was young, dumb, not educated, and trying so hard to shun out the LGBTQ+ community in my life,” she said.
She ended the Twitter thread by admitting she “made a mistake” and is now “suffering the consequences” of her actions. Mills then apologised to “all of those who I have hurt and offended”.
