Mariah Carey and Jane McDonald stanning each other is so, so wholesome: ‘This is beyond iconic’

Headshots of Mariah Carey and Jane McDonald

Mariah Carey and Jane McDonald casually stanning one another is the pure, wholesome antidote to the seething, bleak pit of chaos we call life.

Carey, who famously invented the annual tradition of Christmas, beamed on Saturday (11 December) about the cruise ship singer as she reacted to a clip from the British television show Gogglebox.

Yes, this is a real sentence. This actually happened.

During Friday night’s Gogglebox, the cast tuned in to watch Carey, 52, belt out “Christmas (Baby Please Come Here)” during her new festival special, Mariah Carey: The Magic Continues.

As the Channel 4 stars sang along, Jenny and Lee said they “loved” her radiant outfit while Marcus and Mica emobided us all by simply basking in Carey’s glory.

That’s when Pete and Sophia Sandiford made a, welll, unexpected comparison.

“You know what it reminds me of this?” said Pete, “an American-style Jane McDonald.”

“She is!” shouted Sophie. “She’s America’s Jane.”

Mariah Carey and Jane McDonald are the ‘most ambitious crossover ever’

After the official Gogglebox Twitter account uploaded the scene, Carey let her 21 million followers know what being compared to the singer, who started out performing in local clubs and pubs in Wakefield, England, meant to her.

“I’m America’s Jane!!!?!??” Carey tweeted. “Thank you goregous!!!”

A stunned McDonald replied: “Wow!!!! Well, I must be the UK’s Mariah. Merry Christmas, Mariah.”

Even Gogglebox‘s Pete chimed in to wish Carey and McDonald a “merry Chistmas, ladies”.

As they were legally obligated to do, Twitter users could barely begin to even comprehend the surreal interaction, which one person dubbed “beyond iconic“.

Other than that we need a collaboration as soon as humanely possible and that Carey knows that Gogglebox exists.

“This is the only good thing to have happened in 2021,” tweeted a user.

Another added: “Mariah Carey & Jane McDonald =  Most ambitious cross-over ever.”

“The ‘special relationship’ between the UK and US is the special relationship between Mariah and Jane McDonald,” a third user said.

It comes after Mariah Carey blessed the world with a new holiday single, “Fall in Love at Christmas“.

The R&B tune dropped as the heir to “All I Want for Christmas is You“, the Christmas megahit which, after 26 years, finally took the top spot in the UK charts last year.
