Lil Nas X is leading the long list of LGBT+ artists nominated for the 2022 Grammys, with five award nominations.

The nominations for the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, scheduled for 31 January, 2022, were announced on Tuesday (23 November).

Lil Nas X is, unsurprisingly, up for Album of the Year for his chart-topping album Monteroas well as Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Music Video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”.

He has also been nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance alongside Jack Harlow for “Industry Baby”.

After the nominations were announced, Lil Nas X told his fans on Twitter: “Don’t have to win a single award, truly thankful for all the insight this year has brought me. And thankful for the journey.”

But Lil Nas X will be joined by a plethora of LGBT+ artists at the 2022 Grammys.

Nominations for Record of the Year include Lady Gaga for “I Get a Kick Out of You”, Brandi Carlile for “Right on Time”, and Olivia Rodrigo for “Drivers License”.

Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” has also been nominated for Song of the Year, alongside Carlile’s “Right on Time”.

Gaga, with Tony Bennett, is up for Album of the Year with Love For Sale, as is Rodrigo with Sour.

Best Alternative Music Album was the only category in which the majority of nominees were LGBT+ artists, with Halsey, Arlo Parks and St Vincent all up for the award.

Parks and Rodrigo were both also nominated for Best New Artist, and the Best Remixed Recording saw nominations for K D Lang and Demi Lovato.

Tyler, the Creator was nominated for both Best Melodic Rap Performance with “WusYaName” and Best Rap Album with Call Me If You Get Lost.

LGBT+ icons were also well represented in the nominations for the 2022 Grammys, with ABBA’s “I Still Have Faith in You” up for Record of the Year, Dolly Parton’s A Holly Dolly Christmas nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, and Harry Styles Fine Line nominated for “Best Immersive Audio Album”.
