Britney Spears beams in hopeful Free Britney video ahead of pivotal court hearing

Britney Spears wearing a Free Britney t-shirt

Britney Spears’ fiancé Sam Asghari has shared a video of them both wearing Free Britney t-shirts ahead of a decisive court hearing which could see her conservatorship finally terminated.

In the video posted to the actor and model’s Instagram account, Britney can be seen wearing a white t-shirt that bears the slogan #FreeBritney on a red banner.

“It’s a human rights movement,” the t-shirt says. In the clip, a smiling Britney can be seen spinning around the room and pointing at the slogan on her t-shirt.

Asghari can be seen wearing a matching black version of the t-shirt with the same message calling for Britney’s freedom as Britney’s song “Work B***h” plays in the background.

Britney’s fiancé shared the video with the simple caption: “Loading”.

The t-shirts reference the fan movement that has fought tirelessly for Britney to be freed from a court-ordered conservatorship she was placed under in 2008 following a mental health crisis.

Britney Spears could finally be freed from her conservatorship

For years, the Free Britney movement was derided as a “conspiracy theory” by critics, with many pointing out that Britney herself had not spoken out about her controversial legal arrangement, which resulted in her father and others exercising significant control over her life and finances.

That all changed in June when Britney described her conservatorship as “abusive” in a sensational court appearance. Speaking over the phone to a Los Angeles judge, the singer claimed her conservatorship had prevented her from having children and from marrying her boyfriend Sam Asghari.

In the months since that court appearance, Britney has been granted the right to hire her own legal counsel – a chance she was previously denied. She is now represented by former federal prosecutor and legal powerhouse Mathew Rosengart.

She has also become increasingly vocal on social media about her conservatorship – and about her ill feelings towards her family.

In September, Britney’s father Jamie Spears was finally terminated from her conservatorship during a court hearing. Fans are now hoping the legal arrangement will be consigned to the dustbin of history during a court hearing on Friday (12 November).

It is not yet clear exactly what’s likely to happen at Friday’s court hearing, but one thing is certain: Britney’s conservatorship is living on borrowed time. At this stage, none of the parties involved support the continuation of the complicated legal arrangement – including Britney’s father.

Meanwhile, Britney herself has spoken out time and time again about wanting the chance to make her own decisions once more.
