Demi Lovato is equally as masculine as they are feminine: ‘I identify as both a woman and a man’

Demi Lovato non-binary

Demi Lovato has opened up more about their gender identity saying they are ‘equally masculine and feminine’.

The “Sorry Not Sorry” sat down for a candid interview with Today’s Hoda Kotb about their identity and experiences since they decided to come out as non-binary earlier this year. They said they felt like they have been “living my life as loudly as possible without a care in the world”.

“The way that I explain being non-binary to people, or gender non-conforming, is for me personally – I can’t speak to everyone in their experience – when I came to the realisation that I am equally as masculine as I am feminine,” Lovato said.

They continued: “My masculine and feminine energy are equal, so much so that I may be wearing a dress and heels right now, but I don’t identify as just a woman, or just a man, I identify as both.”

Lovato added that they still “have a lot of grace” when it comes to correcting people about their pronouns, joking they “still mess up sometimes” as well.

“I still mess up sometimes and say ‘Oh, I can’t wait to be an aunt one day’, and I’m like, ‘Wait, what word do I use?’,” they said. “I think for that one we’re going to use ‘aunkle’.”

Demi Lovato went on to speak more about their plans for the future and whether or not becoming a parent is in the cards. They admitted that they aren’t quite sold on the idea, but they’re willing to see what happen.

“I used to really want that, and then, as I’m approaching my 30s without children, it’s pretty nice,” Lovato told Kotb. “I have maternal instincts, I love my animals and I used to really think that one day I would love to be a parent.

They added: “I’m going to go with the flow, and if life presents itself with a child in the future, then it does, and we’ll take it. We’ll see what happens.”

The “Dancing With the Devil” singer added that they are pretty happy with their life right now and experience “moments of happiness and moments of bliss and joy that are so fulfilling”.
