Britney Spears deletes Instagram account hours after explosive post about her fight for ‘freedom’

Fans were left bewildered when Britney Spears unexpectedly deleted her Instagram account shortly after posting about her fight for freedom.

The singer’s Instagram account, which she regularly uses to communicate with fans, disappeared on Tuesday (14 September) – and fans immediately thought the timing was suspicious.

Britney Spears’ Instagram account vanished shortly after she shared a post in which she spoke about being “manipulated by the system” for the last 13 years.

She also shared a screenshot of an article published by wellness author and public speaker Vince Gowmon, which said children “grow up trusting their inner authority rather than blindly granting power to external authorities of information”.

Captioning the post, Spears wrote: “I’ve waited 13 years and counting for my freedom.”

She went on to heap praise on the Free Britney movement, a fan-led initiative that has been drawing attention to the singer’s conservatorship for years.

Britney Spears says she’s ‘taking a little break from social media’

Just hours after sharing that post, Spears’ Instagram account disappeared, leaving fans with a message reading: “Sorry, this page isn’t available.”

Shortly afterwards, she posted on Twitter to tell fans that she was “just taking a little break from social media” so she could celebrate her recent engagement to Sam Asghari.

“I’ll be back soon,” she promised.

The decision quickly whipped fans into a frenzy, with many rushing to social media to share their thoughts about Spears’ decision.

Some were quick to share their concerns that the singer could have been pressured to delete her Instagram account.

However, Britney Spears’ lawyer Mathew Rosengart confirmed to Page Six that it was her decision to delete her Instagram account.

The singer deleted her Instagram account just days after lawyers acting on behalf of her father Jamie Spears asked a court to end her 13-year long conservatorship.

Spears has lived under the complex legal arrangement since 2008. It has allowed her father and others to exercise significant control over her personal life and finances.

Fans had been pushing for years to have Spears freed from her conservatorship, but the singer generally tended to remain quiet on her true feelings.

That all changed in June when she gave explosive testimony to a Los Angeles court. During a virtual appearance, Spears claimed her conservatorship had prevented her from marrying Sam Asghari and from starting a family with him.

She also described the conservatorship as “abusive”, admitting that she was “so angry” about her legal situation. She also indicated she would like to sue her father.

In paperwork filed on 7 September, lawyers for Jamie Spears acknowledged that the singer “wants control of her life back without the safety rails of a conservatorship”.

“She wants to control the money she has made from her career and spend it without supervision or oversight.

“She wants to be able to get married and have a baby if she so chooses. In short, she wants to live her life as she chooses without the constraints of a conservator court proceeding.”

The lawyer added: “As Mr Spears has said, again and again, all he wants is what is best for his daughter.

“If Ms Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr SPears believes she should get that chance.”
