Lil Nas X served not one, not two, but three eye-wateringly brilliant looks at Met Gala debut

Lil Nas X debuts one of three Versace looks at the 2021 Met Gala

Lil Nas X proved that he really is our knight in shining armour with his incredible, earth-shattering Met Gala debut.

The rapper and singer turned up to the star-studded event in New York with not one, but three separate looks – and he blew his competition out of the water.

Lil Nas X arrived in what Vogue said was “the red carpet equivalent of a Matryoshka doll” – he just kept shedding layers to reveal another eye-wateringly brilliant look.

His first outfit was a beautifully designed custom Versace cape. The fully-enclosed gold outfit came with huge shoulder pads and dramatic beading.

But it wasn’t long before Lil Nas shed that layer to reveal an all-gold suit of armour – because why not? He stopped to pose for the photographers for a while before stripping off his armour to reveal his final look of the night.

After ditching his suit of armour, Lil Nas X was left wearing a skin-tight, ornately designed Versace bodysuit. The outfit was covered in crystals and sported Versace’s signature house print, according to Vogue.

The 2021 event might have been Lil Nas X’s first Met Gala appearance, but he proved that he’s willing to bring drama and sparkling camp excess to the event.

Lil Nas X was just one of the famous faces who turned up to the Met Gala on Monday night (13 September). The event, billed as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, usually takes place on the first Monday in May, but it was postponed this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Organisers put strict rules in place for the 2021 event to limit the chances of a COVID outbreak – all attendees were required to be fully vaccinated and masks were mandatory inside.

Other stars who wowed at the Met Gala included Billie Eilish, Timothée Chalamet, Naomi Osaka and Amanda Gorman.

Meanwhile, Elliot Page captured the hearts of queer people at home with a subtle reference to Oscar Wilde on his suit lapel.

The Met Gala came just 24 hours after Lil Nas X stole the show at the MTV Video Music Awards, where he unleashed a sexualised performance of his songs “Industry Baby” and “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”.

The unabashedly queer performance saw the singer strip down and take a shower with his crew of all-male back-up dancers.

He went on to take home the highly-coveted award for best video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”. Proving that he is the ultimate troll, he thanked the “gay agenda” in his acceptance speech.
