Drag Race UK’s Divina De Campo is starring in the UK and Ireland tour of Chicago and we are sure that it’s going to be iconic.

The nationwide tour of the musical Chicago begins on 11 September and finishes up in July 2022.

In an interview with WhatsOnStage Divina says that “the show suits this particular moment in time so perfectly.”

“It’s fun, it’s frivolous, it’s naughty and it’s very sexy. It’s just a moment for people to leave the last year and a half behind and enjoy themselves,” they add.

They will appear in the show as sensationalist reporter Mary Sunshine, who is revealed to be a man in the production of the original musical.

Divina says this version is “quite different and so much richer and so much more interesting,” adding that Chicago is one of their favourite shows.

Although they don’t reveal too much about what audiences can expect, joking: “I have to keep my lips sealed, which is very difficult for a drag queen.”

The Drag Race UK star also takes viewers on a mini behind-the-scenes tour, including a sneak peek at the costume department and you can watch the video in full below.

The extensive UK and Ireland tour will visit towns and cities throughout late 2021 and early 2022 with Coronation Street’s Faye Brookes, West End regulars Darren Day, Djalenga Scott and Joel Montague and pop star Sinitta also confirmed for the cast.

The show, if you didn’t know already, is set amongst razzle dazzle decadence of the 1920s. It follows Roxie Hart, a housewife who dreams of being a star on the stage.

After murdering her lover she dupes the public, media and rival cellmate Velma Kelly by hiring Billy Flynn, Chicago’s best criminal lawyer, who will transform her crime into sensational headlines and eventually make her a star.

This all plays out alongside an iconic soundtrack which features, “All That Jazz”, “Cell Block Tango”, “When You’re Good to Mama” and “Nowadays”.

It’s based on the original Broadway production of Bob Fosse’s musical which opened in 1975 and went on to be come one of the longest running shows ever.

In 2002 it was adapted into an Oscar-winning feature film starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger as Velma and Roxie.

Divina is confirmed to be starring in the show from 11 September until 20 November, so if you want to see that impressive four-octave range live, make sure you book for those venues.
