Married at First Sight UK has given an early look at its first-ever same-sex grooms, although it looks like there could already be trouble ahead for the couple.

The “social experiment” reality series sees couples matched by experts meet for the very first time on their wedding day.

As they navigate married life, each week the couples must decide if they want to continue with the experiment, or go their separate ways.

The sixth series of Married at First Sight UK kicked off on Monday (30 August) and is set to feature the first-ever same-sex couple in the UK version of the global franchise.

They will be introduced to the show on Tuesday (31 August), but in a first look at their wedding day, there seems to be trouble brewing.

Daniel, 27, and Matt, 39, were shown on their “nerve-wracking” wedding day, but an issue appeared to arise when they noticed their 11-year age-gap.

However, both said they were excited to be part of the series’ first queer couple.

According to The Mirror, Daniel said: “It’s amazing to be one half of the first gay couple. Gay marriage has only been legalised very recently in Northern Ireland which is absolutely shocking.

“Now that I can share my relationship with the world, I find that so important.”

Married at First Sight UK is shown on E4 from Sunday to Thursday at 9pm.

Married at First Sight UK expert claims it is ‘one of the most diverse shows in the love genre’

Ahead of the sixth series’ premiere, Married at First Sight experts Melanie Schilling and Paul C Brunson discussed the show’s diversity with Metro

On introducing a same-sex couple, Schilling insisted inclusivity was “important”, and said: “This is a big one and I push for it every season.
You’re just going to love every moment of their journey.”

Brunson said he thought that this series of Married At First Sight UK “could be one of the most diverse shows in the love genre”, and added: “It’s incredibly diverse, and it’s a great reflection of what modern-day the world looks like. It’s very cool!”
