The Everybody’s Talking About Jamie soundtrack is a perfect, joyous, queer blast of feel-good pop

The soundtrack for Everybody's Talking About Jamie will feature songs by Chaka Khan, Todrick Hall and more.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie continues to be the gay movie event of the year as its soundtrack features a cavalcade of pop icons.

Alongside the songs from the smash-hit West End show, the soundtrack will also include Chaka Khan, Todrick Hall and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

The first single to be lifted from the soundtrack is the feel-good “While We’re Still Young” by Ellis-Bextor and Feeling frontman Dan Gillespie Sells.

Gillespie Sells is also the composer of the music from the West End version of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

Talking about the upcoming adaption he says: “It’s miraculous this film ever happened. But I’m so glad it did.

“We’ve been talking about it since the first run of shows in Sheffield. The story really has an effect on people.”

His music, alongside lyrics by Tom MacRae, has created songs including “And You Don’t Even Know It”, “The Wall In My Head” and the musical’s title track.

They will appear in the upcoming film and be performed by the cast which includes newcomer Max Harwood as Jamie New, Richard E. Grant as Loco Chanelle and Sarah Lancashire as Margaret New.

The new songs on the soundtrack include “When the Time Comes” by gay icon Chaka Khan, “Werk Girl” by Todrick Hall and “Everything” by Becky Hill.

The original soundtrack will be available to stream, download and buy from 10 September, just one week before Everybody’s Talking About Jamie makes its world premiere in 240 countries.

The film follows Jamie who is getting ready for his debut stage performance but has to deal with an unsupportive father, an uninspired teacher and ignorant classmates.

But thanks to his best friend Pritti, his loving mum and local drag legend Miss Loco Chanelle, he becomes inspired to overcome prejudice and step into the spotlight.

Following its premiere at OutFest in the US it’s been described as “a feel-good tonic in tough times” while Max Harwood gives “a lesson on how to become a star in a single try”.
