Billy Porter Cinderella trailer gets hilarious mixed reactions: ‘James Corden… ruins everything’

Cinderella Amazon Prime Video

The official trailer for the upcoming Cinderella adaption has arrived, but its fair to say there hasn’t been a happily-ever-after reaction.

The film will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on 3 September and stars Camila Cabello as Cinderella, an ambitious young woman who dreams of opening her shop “Dresses by Ella”.

The supporting cast features some icons including Billy Porter, who will play a genderless fairy godparent, Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, Missy Elliott and Beverly Knight. Oh and James Corden is in it too.

Despite boasting a strong cast, it’s safe to say that the response to the official trailer has been… mixed.

After the trailer dropped yesterday (3 August), Twitter reacted the only way Twitter could – with some blunt reactions.

From calling it a “Hallmark ass movie” to saying “this looks terrible” and “not to be negative but this looks awful,” to someone joking that the film is “girlbossifying Cinderella”.

While a number of people thought they “watched the whole movie in that trailer”, which is a hefty three minutes in length.

Others were supportive of the progressive themes that are being showcased in the film but questioned yet another adaption of the classic fairy tale.

One Twitter user wrote: “It’s great that the new ‘Cinderella‘ is a Latina woman, and I suppose her wanting to go into business and the presence of a LGBTQ+ ‘fairy godparent’ are progressive additions, but does the world really need another Cinderella film in 2021?!?”.

And one person echoed what many might be thinking when it comes to streaming the film, saying: “I love me some Billy Porter, I’ll watch for him.”

James Corden’s appearance also received a big reaction

There have also been hilarious reactions to people finding out that James Corden will appear in the film as a mouse-turned-footman alongside comedians James Acaster and Romesh Ranganathan.

Many were wondering why Corden is starring in another musical after Into the Woods, Trolls, Cats and The Prom, the latter of which saw him receive backlash for his offensive portrayal of a gay character.

One person questioned: “What kind of blackmail does James Corden have on Hollywood that he keeps getting cast in acting roles.”

More were enjoying the trailer until he popped up with someone saying there should be “jump scare warnings” for when he appears and another saying, “a movie will be so good then BOOM! james corden shows up and ruins everything”.

Another got deep with it saying, “if capitalism doesn’t end every fairy tale will be about becoming a CEO and every musical will co-star James Corden. Make your choice.”
