Jonathan Van Ness breaks down 7-step skincare routine: ‘I look younger than I did in my 20s’
Jonathan Van Ness has revealed their favourite skincare products and we’re using them all immediately.
So, if you’re struggling to master a skincare routine, then to quote Van Ness themself: “You are strong, you’re a Kelly Clarkson song, you’ve got this.”
In a new YouTube video, they explained that “this is literally one of my most often asked questions.”
“For the first year of Queer Eye, I like answered it pretty much every time someone asked and then 27,000 times of answering the same question later, I kind of stopped,” they added.
“So here we are: I’m going to break it down once and for all. It’s my morning skincare routine and my night skincare routine and here’s some things: no matter what, it always goes like this.”
Jonathan Van Ness always follows seven steps with cleanser, toner, eye cream, serum, moisturiser, oil and sunscreen.
But what exactly do they use to get glowing skin? Well, nearly all of their favourite products are from the brand Biossance.

They start off with a jelly cleanser for their morning skincare routine because it can be applied to a dry face with dry hands unlike a melting cleanser.
“A really important thing is that we want to get our necks, a lot of times we don’t cleanse our necks or give the neck the love it needs and we really want to do that,” they explained in the YouTube video.
After applying the Squalane and Omega Repair Cream moisturiser from Biossance in the clip, they explained that if your skin feels moisturised in the morning then you can leave it out of your routine for that day.
“You don’t want to be too rigid in your skincare that you stop listening to what your skin is saying,” they said.

Next came the “most important” part of their Ted Talk: sunscreen. They explained that they use a mineral-based sunscreen because it’s more “aggressive” in its sun protection.
JVN finished up with “the only thing [they] do use” that isn’t from Bioessence: a Tatcha peach lip jelly which they say only needs to be applied once a day.
They signed off the video saying: “I’ve been using this level of skincare now for about four years and it’s really quite noticeable how much it has affected my skin.
“I look younger now than I did in my late 20s.”
