Non-binary esports champion SonicFox immortalised with their own adorable plushie

Non-binary esports player, five-time Evolution Championship Series (EVO) winner and star pro-gamer SonicFox has been immortalised with their own cute and cuddly plushie.

But fans looking to get their hands on the limited edition plushy will be disappointed, as SonicFox has already taken to Twitter to reveal their plushie sold out in just two hours.

Best-known for their blue furry suit persona, Dominique ‘SonicFox’ McLean is one of the best and highest-paid LGBT+ fighting game players in the world.

Known for winning tournament after tournament playing games like Mortal Kombat, Skullgirls, Injustice and Dragon Ball FighterZ since 2011, the non-binary star was even named Esports Player of the Year at The Game Awards 2018.

SonicFox’s most recent fighting game victory came in March this year at WePlay Ultimate Fighting League (WUFL)’s Mortal Kombat 11 tournament in Ukraine.

The non-binary star made a powerful statement at the tournament, being introduced as the “defender of trans rights”. And while his opponents each stood before a flag representing their country of origin, SonicFox stood proudly before the trans rights flag.

Speaking about SonicFox’s choice to have the trans flag behind them, WUFL said: “Some of you may have noticed the transgender flag behind SonicFox during our show. We wanted to showcase this as we believe in everyone; it doesn’t matter what you identify as, believe in, or where you originate from. Everyone deserves respect and opportunities.”

As one of few openly LGBT+ players in the esports community, known for its toxicity, this was a true moment of pride and support from the fighting game champion.

Coming out on Twitter back in 2018, SonicFox is also a full-time student at the New York Institute of Technology.
