Xbox announces raft of new games at ‘breadth over depth’ E3 presentation – including Starfield, Halo Infinite and Redfall

Xbox E3 Starfield

Xbox announced a tonne of new games on the way at their E3 presentation, and officially revealed Starfield.

The much-anticipated game from Bethesda was given a reveal trailer and a release date: 11 November 2022.

The stunning trailer showed off a cinematic of what is expected to be “Skyrim in space”, though no gameplay has been seen yet.

Starfield is the first new universe in 25 years from Bethesda, known for the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series.

The game will be available on day one on Game Pass – something of a running theme throughout the Xbox E3 presentation that showed 30 different games.

The presentation was breadth over depth, but with so many games coming to the Game Pass subscription service Xbox certainly has value for money.

Also revealed was Redfall, a brand new co-op shooter against vampires from Arkane – the developer behind Prey and Dishonored.

It blends single and multiplayer options seamlessly as you use different hero loadouts to defeat the vampire legion.

Four characters were shown in the trailer who were wonderfully diverse in their appearance, ensuring the game stood out from the “first-person shooter game with white male protagonist” titles of the rest of the presentation.

Another much-anticipated showing was Halo Infinite. Delayed by a year after a disappointing reveal at last year’s E3, this presentation gave us a look at its free-to-play multiplayer experience.

The series is known for its popular multiplayer, so having it free-to-play is a huge bonus for fans.

The game will, of course, also feature an epic single player adventure with a short teaser trailer shown. Halo Infinite is set for release this holiday season.

Perhaps the best trailer of the event was the reveal for The Outer Worlds 2, a self-aware video that parodied other reveals – Starfield in particular.

The game will follow up the popular Obsidian developed space RPG and continue its humorous legacy.

For Xbox fans looking to showcase the power of the Series X/S, Forza Horizon 5 is a stunner.

From the beautiful lighting to the detail on the environments, this vision of Mexico looks photo realistic. And with its Events Lab that brings battle style modes to multiplayer, it should be as fun as it is gorgeous.

Elsewhere, plenty of other games were shown. We got a further look at Battlefield 2042 and its wild weather effects, plus another Far Cry 6 trailer. A Plague Tale: Requiem, Slime Rancher 2 and snowboarding game Shredders were also announced.

There was gameplay of Stalker 2, Back 4 Blood and Psychonauts 2, plus the reveal of Pirates of the Caribbean character Captain Jack Sparrow in comedy pirate game Sea of Thieves.

And for fans of the Yakuza series, every game is now available on Game Pass – including the most recent Like A Dragon.
