Queer AF Gossip Girl reboot drops dramatic first trailer and it’s all threesomes and backstabbing

Gossip Girl reboot side by side

The Gossip Girl reboot trailer has just dropped, and the super-queer revamp is set to be as scandalous and dramatic as the original.

HBO Max’s revival of Gossip Girl has had tongues wagging since it was first announced in 2019. The reboot takes place nearly a decade after the conclusion of the original series – which wrapped up in 2012 – and a new cast of teens take the lead of private school Constance Billard in New York.

The new clip reveals the social rank of the cliques’ leader Julien Colloway (Jordan Alexander) is about to be shaken by the arrival of a new student, Zoya (Whitney Peak). The appetite-whetting trailer also offers a glimpse into the scandalous lives of the Manhattan teens including steamy queer kisses, threesomes and backstabbing.

The new series takes place as Gossip Girl – who is voiced by Kristen Bell – watches and reports on all the scandals rocking the school. In the new universe, the titular character is an Instagram account instead of an anonymous blogger like in the original CW series, showing how far technology and social media have come.

Fans are already excited about the new series and its plethora of queer characters. One fan on Twitter said it was “about damn time” that Gossip Girl had more LGBT+ characters.

Another person said they would be watching the new Gossip Girl series just for two male characters that are seen locking lips in the trailer.

Someone else wrote: “All the male leads on the Gossip Girl reboot are into men”.

The new series stars Alexander, Peak, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno and Savannah Lee Smith in key roles. Gossip Girl premieres 8 July on HBO Max.
