Bakery hit with bigoted backlash over delicious Pride cookies. Then something incredible happened

Bakery showered with love after being hit with backlash over Pride cookies

A small bakery in Texas has been showered with love and support after receiving backlash for making rainbow Pride cookies.

Confections in Lufkin, Texas, is run by sisters Dawn and Miranda with the help of baker Felicia.

They posted a photo of some beautiful rainbow heart cookies to mark the first day of Pride month, with the caption: “More LOVE. Less hate. Happy Pride to all our LGBTQ friends! All lovers of cookies and happiness are welcome here.”

Soon afterwards, Dawn shared another post, addressing the hostility they had experienced in response to their Pride post.

She said: “Today has been hard. Really hard.

“We lost a significant amount of followers because of a rainbow heart cookie we posted.

“We received a very hateful message on our business page cancelling a large order (five dozen) of summer-themed cookies for tomorrow morning (that we just finished decorating) because of a rainbow heart cookie we posted.

She added that Confections was a “very small business that is struggling to stay afloat and spread a little cheer through baked goods”.

The bakery’s post about the anti-LGBT+ hate has, to date, been shared more than 2,000 times, and the comments were filled with love and support.

Although they told their followers that the would be extra cookies for sale the next day after the large cancelled order, the three women didn’t need to worry about “over abundance” of baked goods, as their community came out in droves to support them.

From the second they opened their doors the next day, the queue was “wrapped around the street” and they were forced to close an hour early after completely selling out.

The LGBT+ community and allies from around the world began asking if they could donate money to the bakery and they weren’t able to stop by for delicious Pride cookies.

But they insisted: “We can’t take y’all’s money like that, but if you would like to donate to one of our local [animal] shelters or rescues, that would be so amazing!”

The bakery has promised to restock “more of everything, including the rainbow heart that started it all”.
