Donald Trump deletes his ‘deranged man’s Tumblr’ blog after just one month

Former U.S. President Donald Trump leaves Trump Tower in Manhattan on May 18, 2021 in New York City

Donald Trump has deleted his blog, described by him as a “beacon of freedom” blog and by others as a “deranged man’s Tumblr“, after just one month.

“From the Desk of Donald J Trump” was launched on 4 May, 2021, and the former president hailed it as a “a beacon of freedom” and “a place to speak freely and safely”.

Having been banned from most social media platforms for his role in inciting the 6 January Capitol riots, Trump mostly used his “communications platform” to complain about being banned from social media, and to regurgitate unfounded accusations of election fraud.

When his remaining followers logged on to check the former president’s latest musings on Wednesday (2 June), however, they found that the blog had disappeared.

Trump’s adviser Jason Miller confirmed to CNBC that the blog “will not be returning”, but did not give a reason for its removal, simply adding: “It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on.”

However, another of Trump’s aides recently told The Washington Post that the blog had attracted relentless mockery and a “staggeringly small audience”.

Donald Trump is still trying to ‘join another social media platform’ after deleting his blog

When asked by CNBC about the “broader efforts” the “From the Desk of Donald J Trump” blog was a part of, adviser Jason Miller simply said: “Hoping to have more information on the broader efforts soon, but I do not have a precise awareness of timing.”

But when former Nevada GOP chair Amy Tarkanian asked Miller on Twitter whether the blog’s removal was “a precursor to him joining another social media platform”, he responded: “Yes, actually, it is. Stay tuned!”

Trump has run out of major social media sites that he is allowed to join, and last month, the Wall Street Journal reported that he was exploring fringe platforms to use to connect with his dwindling followers.

The publication also reported that “people familiar with the situation” said the former president is looking for a pay check in exchange for joining a smaller platform and attracting new users.
