White women insist they’re not racist, just homophobic, after seeing two Black women kissing in a pool

A group of white women were shamed by hotel guests and escorted away by security after they complained about witnessing two Black women kiss.

A video uploaded by Instagram account The Black Bay Area showed the aftermath of a confrontation between a group of white women and hotel guests at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel in Sacramento, California. The Instagram post went into more detail about the altercation that preceded the events in the video.

The caption explained that a “pack of white straight women” who were visiting the hotel “demanded that a queer Black woman” stop “kissing her girlfriend in the pool” because there were children present. It added: “Of course there were many other (straight/white) couples in the pool with plenty of PDA, but they only insisted that only Black queer women stop. And we know why.

“When confronted by bystanders, ‘the white party’ claimed there’s no way they were racist because one of them was ‘Hispanic’. Like you can’t be both.”

In the video, the group of white women are being herded away from the pool area by hotel security as hotel guests chant “shame” at them. One of the women confronts the bystanders and asks them if they have any children. When one person says they don’t want children, she replies: “Good because you’d be a f*****g terrible dad.”

The woman goes on to claim that she’s “never been more embarrassed” in her life “for the human race” and says she is a “Jewish woman from New Jersey” who also lives in Oakland. She then continues her profanity-filled tirade even though – as her male companion points out – there are still children present in the pool area.

The video also been shared on other social media channels. Daryle Lamont Jenkins, executive director of One People’s Project, uploaded the video to Twitter, where it has been viewed over 126,000 times.

Jenkins wrote: “The white women at this Sacramento hotel pool were pissed that a queer Black woman was kissing her gf in public because there were children present.

“They were shamed out.”

Comedian Kathy Griffin then responded to the video, commenting on the irony inherent in the white women being concerned about the children present at the pool.

“Not that I don’t love an f bomb, put (sic) the white ladies who are so concerned about the children are the only ones swearing,” Griffin wrote.

Nikki Carlson, general manager at The Sawyer, said in a statement to local news channel KTXL that the hotel “does not condone discrimination or verbal assault of any kind”.

Carlson added: “An unfortunate disagreement between guests occurred at our pool over the holiday weekend, and the matter has since been resolved.”
