Lil Nas X says he will “never trust pants again” after they split during his musical guest appearance on Saturday Night Live.

The queer music icon was pole-dancing to his hit “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” on this weekend’s SNL when his leather trousers ripped, and he was forced to use his hands to hide the wardrobe malfunction.

Lil Nas X addressed the viral moment during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday (24 May).

He told Fallon the wardrobe malfunction happened during the “perfect” time in the performance. “Everything” would have been on show on live TV if his trousers “would’ve ripped any other time during the performance”, he said.

Fallon then showed a dress rehearsal of Nas’ planned SNL performance, and true to his word, the world would have seen “everything” because of that rip.

Lil Nas X also insisted that the wardrobe malfunction was not intentional or a “publicity stunt”. He said: “I want everyone who thought it was a publicity stunt to see that [the taped rehearsal]. It was not.

“I would never rip my pants in public on purpose.”

Before appearing on the show, Nas tweeted out photos of himself on set wearing a gorgeous plaid skirt.

After fans questioned his immaculate outfit choice, he let everyone know the real reason behind his decision to wear a skirt – beyond just looking amazing.

He tweeted: “Stop asking me why i’m wearing a skirt, i will never trust pants again!”

Fans were here for it and hailed the age of Lil Nas X rocking gorgeous skirts.
